Running 2 400 watt hps in grow tent....

Whats the best way to run 2 400 watt hps in a 4x4x7 grow tent? Niether of the hoods are air cooled. I was thinking of putting 1 on each side of the tent, and putting 4-6 plants under each one, leaving a aisle in the middle for watering and shit. I have a 400 cfm blower fan and 4 in carbon filter, do I need a speed control switch on that fan or just run it full rpm. And will 4 in computer fans work for intake at the bottom port holes? Should I just hang the fan and filter from top and have the duct going out of the tent? Will that eliminate odors?? Thankx for all the help, this is a great website and much respect to one another. Happy growing those tomatoes and cucumbers... The diggity dank cucumbers!!

I don't think you'll need intake fans. They would probably slow down the airflow. Passive intake would work well in that small space. Maybe 2x 4" holes.
4' x 4' with 2x 400W? You wont be needing an aisle either. Cram that bitch full! You can easily reach anywhere in there.
You're right about hanging the fan and filter. Make sure it's horizontal with no bends in the ducting. You wont have to worry about slowing the fan down, I'm not sure if it's got enough power to keep it cool with 800W. To cool, you need to change the air 2-3 times per minute. When you add a filter to the circuit you need to up the CFM by about 25-30% minimum. Your fan will be right at that limit.
Air cooled hoods with their own fan circuit would be the best way. Think about getting them as soon as you can. It'll make the plants much happier.
400W lights cover 3'x3' pretty well. In a 4'x4' tent, I would mount the lights as far apart as possible and tilt them a little till I found the best coverage. You should be able to grow some giant buds in there.
Good luck,
Fred

Thanks alot fred! Appreciate the reply. What did you mean by tilting the lights though. Yeah when I said aisle I wasnt thinking how small 4x4 area is. I will be packing that tent as full as I can, Do you thik I should run like a y pipe where the 2 open ends are sucking heat as close to the lights going into the can filter then fan then out of the tent? It sucks cause I just dropped 600.00 bucks, and I should of ordered air cooled hoods. But, 400 watters really dont produce too much heat so hopefully that 465 cfm will wotk decent. Let me know Flintstone, thanks bro.

In theory, your lights will cover 3'x6'. The light footprint is actually closer to a rectangle, following the shape of the hood. Trying to figure out how to cover 4'x4' evenly is the real trick. Maybe tilting the lights a bit, maybe just moving plants around weekly. You'll have to figure this out as you go. If you try to simply raise the lights to cover 4'x4' you may find the outer plants are small and the center suffer from lights being far away. Smoke a bowl or two and the answer will come to you.
I don't think you'll gain anything by splitting the air flow. That's a pretty small space. The setup should be: filter-fan-ducting to exit.
With sixteen or so plants in there, a pound of killer should be easy.
