ok so i have 15 plants in veg under cfls about 3 inches tall each, right now. so i went to check out my 3 plots today as i was going to haul soil out next week. and get ready since the warm weather is only about a month away. and deer hunters have taken over. these 3 plots are along a 2 mile stretch, the first spot was single handedly the best, nice clearing, plenty of sun, thorns all around the edge except 2 spots, and a brook about 300 feet away. and what do i find? clay pigeons shot up EVERYWHERE, they crunched as i walked threw there. further out there was still snow and i noticed footprints, so i followed them, and found a hunters blind about 50 feet from my second plot, third plot had footprints too, followed the prints for about 3 hours(prints are fresh only 2-3 days old) and they end up going to 2 houses. basicly my locations are ruined..

now i don't know what to do... plant them out in the same area just singularly? and hope they arn't discovered? or if they are just thought to be wild?

i'm pretty limited on outdoor locations. anyone know when hunting starts in the fall (aprox befor october or after?) in new England? also what are your opinions on growing off power line runs? basicly a wide area under powerlines threw the woods. it would be a few hundred feet away from the lines but i gotta figure something out so i can prep my spots within a week

thanx for any info

I dunno about power lines, me and my buddies play paintball in one of those and there is a trail there that some people walk on

the power line are about a hour and a half hike unless i park nearby but theres nowhere to park unless i wanna hike the gas pipe lines and thats still about an hour, alot of EP(environmental police) on the gas pipelines tho...

i really wish the local hunters started setting up earlier i checked out the spots last september and there was NOTHING no footprints, no shell casings, no tree stands....

well heres a list of things to look for when checking your areas for hunters and other people might help other people:

shell casings they will either be small and metallic or larger about 3 inches and plastic with a brass/copper end on them(shotgun)

buckets near bases of trees, often an easy way for a hunter to carry things in and then use as a chair.

boot prints, pretty obvious one, but check along brooks and muddy areas, also moss will hold the shape for a few days, leaves will likely be disturbed at the base of trees where they've been sitting or climbing trees

bark missing on trees where they could have climbed up.

check for boards in trees, ropes, camo netting ext

branches that have been cut off local trees

ammo boxes that might have been left behind

if an area has been shot in quite a bit you can usually smell (at least in the case i found) a sulfur smell, very feint but you can smell it.

look at the bark on trees, you might find small holes where a slug hit a tree. or if its a shotgun slut an area up to 4 across might be cracked apart and a 1.5 inch dent in the center.

look around for trash, most hunters bring it out with them but you might find plastic from a pack of cigarettes, a broken clasp from a pack or rifle sling.

look at pine trees for lower branches bent down and tied to the grown to offer better cover

sunflower seed shells, or chewing tobacco cans are occasionally forgotten.

any of these things might clue you in to hunters, best thing to look for now is foot prints, atleast in my area everything is muddy so prints are easy to spot.

I guess Monday i've got to check out my last ditch location, off the power lines, wish me luck, if its unchanged from September then it should be sufficient for a few plants but definetly not what i had hoped for. and A LOT more work to get to without being obvious...

anyone got any opinions on powerline growing? is it even worth growing 2-3 plants for an hour and a half hiking each way? water is about 20 min walk from there too.

any opinions would be great

look out for deer blinds out by mine there is one made out of wood w/ some chairs, come in handy when we're playing paintball though. and just the normal stuff to look out for, if it has a trail plant far away from it, what kind of brush is there?

in my original areas it was all mountain laurel (spoonwood) bushes, and a good bit of thorns, the other location is mostly mountain laurel, very few thorns or much of anything else
