Rubbermaid for growing soil?

I was looking at 18 gallon rubbermaids...instead of using them for hydro, which i have made one for, what about growing like 2 plants in them with soil. What would be the ups/downs?

I did a side by side in one of those outside durring the summer both plants did great no over crowding problems, I got a few of the ten gallon buckets with the rope handles for my indoor grow im in the process of getting together. One reason I went with the ten gallon ones is because it is truly a bitch to pick up 18 gallons of wet soil and carry it, if it were needed.

ok. I will try the 10 gallon tubs to see how it works, i dont have a problem with heights. I have been using feminized medi bud seeds. I will try it and let you all know how it goes.

ok...so I took my 2 medi bud plants and transplanted them into my 36 gallon rubbermaid. I had each of them in a 4 gallon pot, but they were getting root bound. So here we are, hopefully I will see some results in the next week or two.

I transplanted a single female from a 5 gallon pot to a 18 gallon tub before flower and picked up 5.5 oz off it.

I left a female in her 5 gallon bucket and picked up a little over 6 oz off it.

Not worth it

well, i only had 4 gallon pots and this 36 gallon rubbermaid. so im using the rubbermaid. I will be vegging these for about another 2 to 3 weeks to see if theres any change, then i will flower.

You should never have multiple plants in a single container. Your yield will be less than if you planted them in individual containers. One of the problems caused by doing multiple plants in a single container is that the plants have to compete for space, nutrients, and water. The roots become intertwined with each other, and if one plant has a problem, they both have it.

well, like i said, i have about 2 or 3 more weeks of veg, then i will put them into flowering. both of the plants were getting root bound in the pots and werent growing anymore. So i put them in what I had, the rubbermaid. next time i will be planting either in 5 gallon buckets or i will buy 10 gallon rubbermaids and put each plant in one of those. I will keep you guys posted on if my plants turn to shit because of this.

i want big plants indoors, as big as i can get atleast. When i finish building my new room i will be able to get more lights, when that happens i will have some small grows and then try for a couple of big plant in trash cans or just big rubbermaid tubs. I dont want to have a bunch of small little grows, i want some big ones. My plants are doing great, but just arent growing very tall is such small pots. but eh, at least they are healthy for now.

thats exactly what im gonna use for my next grow...the rubbermaids...i like them because they're really big and open which leaves lots of room for doing lst. im not sure i would recommend more than 1 plant per container tho...i would be worried about plant problems...cuz in the same container if 1 plant starts having a problem its pretty likely that the other plant will end up with the same issue...and what may happen is that one plant will thrive and grow really well while the other one doesnt grow hardly at all because its not able to get the nutes from the "big bully next door" lol

i understand the concern with 2 plants in one container. I have them spaced as far apart as i could, and like i said..2 to 3 more weeks of veg, then it should be no more than 10 weeks of flowering. we will seeez:eyesmoke:

I saw a post a while back about a guy who grew 2-3 plants in rubbermaid containers like this. He had a couple and they turned out fine.

Just an update. I am going to be harvesting this week. My plants grew to about 4.5 feet tall. I have nice big solid buds and lots of good pop corn buds. The first batch I harvested already was from my almost dead plant. It's about half an ounce. The buds were not very dense or compacted and kind of leafy. BUT...still very smokable and very potent. My 2 big plants from the rubbermaid are probably going to have about half a pound from.

Medi-Bud from marijuana-seeds.nl

these seeds turned out to be as expected. Nice big buds and still have good potency.
