ok so for a while now ive had lots of fruit plies flying around my plant (its now in its last few weeks of flowering) i was told before its nothing to worry about but i got up this am and they were alllll over the place, they are on the top of the soil, on the pot, but only a few actually hangout on the plant, the rest are just well everywhere else, idk if they are damaging the plant (hard to tell cause my damn cats got to it the other day. but like i said im in the last few weeks of flowering, and i want to be sure my crop is going to be alright, and not infested with flies and larva. so if there is anything i can do to get rid of them id really appreciate it. thanks guys!

Hey,
i think you describing fungus gnats. Aka scarid flys,

no the adults you see wont do to much harm, but the larva in the soil will be munching on your roots.
There are many apporachs, but a combo will work best to get rid of them. As you in flower no chemicals really, maybe pyrethrum but im not saying use it., in fact dont,

let your soil dry a fair bit. Use yellow stick traps on topsoil and around plants to catch adults and reduce there spread.
clean you grow show and your house/surroundings. Lids on bins and all that. D.E. Spread over the top of the soil will kill them as they transition. This or sand, wont help too much if you have lots of holes in your pot. People say they are hard to kill, but i dont seem to have that problem, i have had them every time i fluff up this bio nova coco,,,sorry im going off so i will wrap up...

yeah, dry soil, barrier of some kind between, anything really. Stick traps. Pyrethrum for the adults, (edit.) or preadtory mites for your soil.. Hypoaspis miles i think,,double check if you do order..

You may find a few in your flowers, and there poo too, so maybe try wash your buds,,only if you can keep humidty down do that though....

i appreciate it but ive checked the soil (actually dug through it and shit) because i was worried i had that problem when i first had these bugs flying around and there is nothing in the soil

Yup sounds like fungus gnats. Sticky traps for the adult flyers, but they are not really the problem. The problem is their larvae eating at your roots. You need something with BTi in it, like mosquito dunks or Gnatrol. This is a bacterium that attacks the larvae. Soak BTi into soil and then let the top inch or two dry out a tad to prevent adults from laying eggs. Sounds like you will need TONS of sticky traps. Get a lot of them. They can fill up quite fast if it is really bad like you describe.

I have used the predatory mites before, used them with reptiles and they were very effective. I don't know how well they'd worth with your plants but the mites themselves are right little workers if you're into being all natural :)

Yeah, i havn't seen them myself, but i think the larvae are translucent and leg less, about 4-5mm, you would have to look it up to get soild info i guess. But they look alot like roots themselves,...

Well i think you need to positively i.d. the pest for proper treatment. Catching one and measuring it,(which is easy with sticky traps), will tell you if its a fungus gnat or far worse.....thrips,, cause they will munch and wrap up in your buds,, dissolving them form the inside out,,,

Best o luck though...

wish i could of liked your post,, but yeah, i think would be the best approach, cover all bases as it were...and no nasty chems near the buds...good call greengasm.

Cut a wedge of raw potato. Stick it in just under the soil sharp end down. Wait an hour or what. Larvae will migrate to the potato. Take out the potato and examine for larvae, they are TINY. This is the best way to check for them. They are a fraction the size of the flyers.
