Thats doesnt really make sense can you post again being clearer?You just have a plant laying on a plastic tray or is it in some kind of medium rockwool dirst clay pebbles grodan squares something?

i have the plants in 6 in square pots with holes on the bottom. clay pellets in teh pots with rockwool grow cubes 4.5" . BUt i have no medium in the flood tray

You could drop the 6" pots into some much larger pots (perhaps 12" dia), with some more pellets filling the space between the pots. This preserves the ability to move the plants around easily, as opposed to filling the flood tray with pellets.

You might put a 6" depth of pellets in the 12" dia x 12" tall pots before filling in around the current 6" pots, but make sure your taproots get down to the flood level when potting up. Hand watering for a few days will help encourage the roots to seek the flood level.

thats what i was thinkin of doing the one with filling the bottom with clay pellets. but when i go to change the res and clean by taking the plants out of the medium with roots showing, is that ok.

i mean taking the cube of rockwool out of the pellets and the roots showing, is that ok for the plant they won't dry out or anything else?
