Roots growing way to fast!

Hi everyone, I have 2 3 week old kush plants and idk what to do, the roots are growing way faster then they should and idk why, I water properly, once it dries to 2 inches or about every 4-5 days then I water till I see 20% runoff, the ph is perfect, I don't get it, they say1 foot per gallon but currently my plant is 8 inches tall and it's now potbound in a 5 gallon pot, I have no idea what I'm going to do for flowering because these plants will fill out an extra 10 gallons in 2 and a half weeks to 3 at the very most at this rate, they outgrew the 1 gallons at 4 inches tall into 5 gallons and outgrew that in 10 days... Someone help idk what to do cause if it gets potbound in the 20 gallons in the middle of flowering I am FUCKED because it will be way to stressful to transplant from a 20 gallon plus I wouldn't know what else to out it in, someone help, look my plants are only that tall and the roots started poking through yesterday.....

I grow autoflowers in 3gal containers. I start the seedling in that size container. The first 2-3 weeks it seems like the plant does nothing. Then it takes off above ground.

It sounds like you're focusing too much on roots (being rootbound), transplanting to larger containers too soon. You said you were in 1gal containers, now 5 and you're thinking of going to 10? And the plants are only 2-3 weeks old?

You're not giving them any time to fill the container and then grow above ground.

I start photos in 18oz cups, then 1gal in 2 weeks, then 3gal 2 weeks later. A couple weeks after that, flower (leaving them in 3 gal containers).

If you're going to grow in 10gal containers, you're gonna have a lot of veg time letting the roots develop to the size of container. Especially if you keep transplanting too soon (IMO).

I find it hard to believe that plant is root bound, but if you don't start flowering now (and get a low yield) you will need a bigger pot. More roots = more weed.

It's not like a hand watered plant is root bound when the first root hits the bottom of the pot though, you need the plants to really be root bound before transplanting, so you pull the stalk and the entire medium and roots just slide out in a block and you don't damage your roots.

You can use a 24hr photo-period if you want more vegging and less root growth, but this will increase your electricity bill.

My roots problem started when I went outdoor.. the temperature affects the roots and get them grow faster .. but depends also on the strain ! If you are able to transplant well .. do that
if not, you can only hope the root bound will not affect the plant ! Good luck

Do you think the plant is root bound when you see roots at the bottom of the pot?

If so that's just not the case.

They have to circle the pot a few times in order to become root bound.

And then greatest trouble most have with root bound plants is over feeding due to increased watering frequency.
