roots growing out bottom of pots. Is it bad?

I have a hydro setup with pots (filled with hydroton) that are 8 inches wide and about 10 inches long (growing plants about 3 feet tall) and the roots are coming out of the drain holes that are on the bottom of the pot to the side and are being exposed to light and air. Is this bad?

whenever the roots are exposed to the light its bad, whenever your water is exposed to the light its bad (the light cant promote algae growth and what not), you have to fix those issues some how. What kind of system are you running? NFT?

Im running a recirculating drip system so water is only exposed to light whil the drip is running thn it drains back into the covered reservoir.

8x 10 inch pot holding a 3 ft plant...Replant into a bigger pot. Unless you're near harvest..
The plant is only about 10 inches tall right now but i'm saying I plan to grow it 3 feet max. Do you think this is ok? The plant looks really healthy at the moment but I only noticed the roots today.

If possible put the pot in a tub which can hold some more hydroton and drains back to your recirculating system. That will allow your root system to keep on growing.

I would do that but theres no space left on my table. What about filling flood table with hydroton? I really dont want to do that but will if its necessary.

I agree your in way to small a pot to do what you want to do. Even with a good root pruning there isn't alot of room.

o shit you are are talking about hydroton something? Thats hydropnics right? You guys actually trim the roots?

If the pots are close to each other probably only need a few inches of hydroton or any free draining media. Lava rocks, coco chips, grow stones would all work.
