I do DWC in 5 gal buckets under a scrog net. I trim about 4 inches off once (for obvious reasons) the day I put the net down. I use a long carving or bread knife, And I still end up with this at the end:

Good god, I have never seen roots quite like that (or stems). I am in 13 US gallon tubs (to the brim). Have you flipped to 12/12 when you trim them?

When I put them under the scrog net I can't get to the roots so I will veg a couple more weeks before flip.. I never have trimmed roots during flower.

I work from clones for the most part. I'v trimmed roots anywhere from 5 to 8 weeks after the plant takes off in the dwc bucket. I havent noticed any shock or slow growth after I give the roots a trim.

Do you run sterile Michigan lad or add some kind of beneficials? Must be a hell of a job to keep such a root mass healthy.

I run as sterile as possible with really cool water temps and lots of air. The city water where I live is absolutely terrible for drinking but the plants thrive on it.

Just curious...Why do you want to trim your roots? What type of grow style are you using?

Just as a side note root trimming aids in the production of lateral roots which is a good thing. You can train your roots just as you train your plant. I do it aften until I get a full root mass. This is in a 13g tote and is only at 3 weeks old. It's been trimmed atleast 5 times in that period with no detriment to the plant at all. The

Love learning new stuff, this is very interesting. I came up under the mind set "many, many years ago" of disturbing the root zone as little as possible otherwise it stresses the plant out. That is a very nice and uniform root zone though.

Oh yea same here and it makes so much sense since the roots just explode when well fed also it looks like the roots look much healthier when trimmed
