I was wondering if anyone has ever used a rockwool cube instead of an AG sponge as a medium.

Yea, thats what a few people use (rockwool cubes), I know for a fact thats what aerogrower76 uses. You just put the rockwool into the grow net.
not really sure if theres any benefit to either of them. its just a grow medium.

I use rockwool but this is first dwc. Never have done this but never heard of sponge sounds interesting

I think the OP was referring to the AeroGarden sponges.
Although... a kitchen sponge sounds like an interesting medium..

How could a sponge be less absorbant than a rockwool cube. The rockwool is not as dense as an AG sponge.

sicc is right. rockwool is no good in the ag. you might get away with it if the water pump is turned off and you've got some air stones. no way will it work if the pump is on. it just retains to much water. if you manage to get roots, chances are you will get stem rot.
