I had a seed germinating and tried to remove it from it's napkin wrap and tore the tail off, about 1/3 inch long...Is is dead?
Ripped thetail off my skunlk seed, will it recover?

So do we need any more reasons as to why doing the Paper Towel method is worthless?? This happens more often then you think. Next time, just toss the seeds in some water for 24-48 hours. Then toss the seeds in some rockwool or rapid rooters. 3-7 days later, you have germinated seeds ready to be planted in soil or your hydro set up. Paper towel method is a waste in my book. Sorry man, but it probably wont make it...

When using the paper towel method use a toothpick to pry the tap root away.......OR just rip the paper towel with taproot attached,it will grow just fine when transplanted.
Now, as far as your ripped root,if its too much,its done.........but put it in soil anyway,you'll now pretty quickly if it will survive.GL.peace

I'm still a noob but I've germinated at least 30 seeds now and they best way and best growth I've gotten is to put in water for roughly 24hrs at least till it sinks then straight into medium. I've yet to have a seed sink And not germ.

Why you can put them in soil or rockwool, and have them pop up in 3-4 days

You could. But ive had some strains that have never germed. without dropping them in water a day or two first.. Himalayan Gold is one of those strains.......Not to mention some soils dont do well with starting seeds. Putting the seeds in water, and then into some rapid rooters or other medium has always worked for me. The roots are already rooted before they are transplanted, better chance of survival in my book.....Plus you dont lose tap roots to paper towels
