Replicating Heaths Flooded tube hydro

Hi all!

I'm about to replicate the allmighty flooded tube octagon by Heath Robinson. I have all the materials ready, waiting to get assembled, but my main concern is how to drain the system, either partially or fully.

I was thinking about the adjustable dams Heath had, but he mentioned somewhere along the long thread that they could as well be unadjustable.

My calculations show that the system will contain 80 litres of water without a res. Heath told the system to be very efficient regarding water consumption, so I was thinking maybe there don't have to be any means of draining the 80 litres. Exchanging the res water should be enough to fix any possible nute imbalance (40-70 litre res).

Do you have other opinions about the draining issue?

I will be posting my progress to this thread. Plan is to have it ready in 3 weeks.

Edit: I guess I wrote this in a wrong area. Mods if you read this, could you move this to a proper place? Hydro / aero -area would be better I think..
