Relative Humidity During Drying

I know that the RH should be <70% when you are curing in the jars, but I was wondering what people shoot for when they have the buds hanging up. My RH will be <25% more than likely, just want to know if this is good/bad/neutral.

Keep a very close eye on your bud then. At 25% or less, it'll dry very quickly. I'd probably do 2 solid days hanging and consider jarring some up and seeing what your hygrometer does.

Last harvest I hung for 2-3 days like you said, and jarred them. I was wondering what you thought about this being good or bad, the faster drying (i.e. should I attempt in increase humidity) thanks for the response!

I suggest you jar after 2 days instead of 3-4... Give them 6 hours in jar and read hygrometer. If it goes over 70, hang them back up or lay out on news paper for 4-6 hours only and keep repeating until your jar RH is just below 70%.

If you can dry in an enclosed space like a box, you can slow down dry time. If it dries too fast, like Irieie said, it will trap in chlorophyll and who wants to smoke that? :)

i find that if i dry too fast the buds have more of a "green" or hay smell to it.
I was going to include that in my last post, my buds had lost there smell on my last dry in this new location, and I was kind of stumped why, but maybe too fast drying?

Is my only option to run a humidifier? This batch is almost ready, and looking better than the last so I'd like to keep them that way. I dry in a closet with almost no airflow (other than when I open to check a couple times a day), but I could easily set up a drying box stealth is of no concern.

If you can increase humidity just a bit.... try laying out all of your trim and leaf to dry in same closet... that should initially increase the humidity. Be careful about closets though with no air movement. You have to be extra diligent in looking for mold or mildew until you can get them jarred at under 70%.

Quick note to new readers on this subject: The OP and I participated in a thread about drying and curing, so we are not using a lot of detail here. Just to make sure there is no confusion, getting the RH in jars down to 70% or less is only part of the battle. If anyone needs a full break down on drying and curing technique, that can be found here...

you can increase humidity with a humidifier or you could dry in a brown paper bag or a cardboard box. but it is best to hang dry in humidity 45-65% and 65-75 F. you could also trim after you dry which will make them dry slower, but trimming dry can be a real pain.
