Reduce Sound

My duct fan (8" diameter fan) is really loud. It's not the fan itself, really, just the sound of the air moving. Does anyone have suggestions on how to reduce this sound?
 
I dont have one but...maybe a carbon scrubber would decrease this sound? If you looked at the prices you will notice they are quite expensive but there is a really nice thread in the DIY section.
 
Yeah, I went ahead and bought a can carbon filter but was saving it for when I needed to reduce smell. I'll go ahead and hook it up today and see if that decreases sound. Thanks.
