Reammending coots mix advice.

Due to time I bought the 3.8 kit from build a soil and mixed it in with 1 3.8 bale, 6 malibu compost, 6cf pumice and most of a bag of gro kashi.

Most of this went to my 4x4 grassroots living soil bed with prob 20 gallons left to have for veg tent. Was thinking about buying the 3.8 kit again and useing half to mix up a half batch for veg soil and use the other 50 percent to lasagna into top 3 inches of soil in my bed with an inch or 2 of compost and or castings with a tea watered in a week prior to dropping 4-6 3ft plants I have in veg in the bed. Is 50 percent of this needed to reammend my 4x4 bed? First flower run in this bed with 2 or 3 weeks of veg on top. 50 percent of original inputs just sounds about right to me. Have used this mix with great success but did not reuse it and went off other directions... is this a decent approach to re ammend. This run is turning out killer so I dont want to over do it for round 2 lol. Any advice or suggestions is appreciated big time.

Happy growing!20190812_164358.jpg Most current pic I have bout day 36 or 8 from flip. Not the whole pic but everything looks happy except the spots that were burnt a little while ago... needed water as well lol...

I do not see a need for the layers..
Just mix it in.

Everything else sounds just right.

Would you suggest 50 percent of inputs every cycle (flower only) (8-10 weeks)or should I be skipping every so many as well... My 4x4 tent useing same mix is my veg space and I transfer to the bed within a week of flower ending. thanks for the reply! Currently bed has had 2-3 weeks veg and current flowering run. Mix was new. Happy growing!

When I re-use soil, I just plant the seedlings/clones in it and top dress with neem and kelp meals and cover that up with compost. Once they get about a foot tall and their roots are good and established then I top dress with the exact amounts I've top dressed with in the last run with the same soil. After the plants are 1ft tall, I top dress every 2-4 weeks depending on plant sizes and how heavy the strain feeds. The only time I don't is when they're seedlings/clones as those only need peat, aeration, and some sort of compost to do their thing.

You don't need/want to dump the soil and re-amend that way, top dressing produces better results actually. This is because of the microbiology in the soil. Think of the life in your soil as a web or a city; if you dump the soil out and re-amend then you pretty much destroy the web/city every time it gets built up, however if you simply top dress and leave the web alone it will become larger and more well established.

Using a dif mix(s) I have always top dressed and covered in compost. I have normally scratched it in the top inch or 2 though before covering with malibu/castings. People seem to be stuck on one side or the other... till into top 1-2" and then cover or put it down even and just cover with 2 or so inches compost no tilling at all. I normally follow up with a compost and or casting tea.

Wondering most about the amounts. BAS told me today to add 50% of the original mix. Just not sure if they ment mineral(s) as well. Thanks for the reply I appreciate it. Happy growing!

They know what's up, and they know more about their product than I do, though I am familiar with it. 50% should be just fine, you can always add more if you need it.

I appreciate the reply man. I guess I'll throw the roughly 27 lb of mineral and 8lbs of neem, karanja etc (50% of original amount) down with 1-2 cf malibu and or casting mixing it all up in it then throw down some 12 seed cover crop and light amount of barley straw and water in a tea and pray next run go as kick ass as this one...

Sounds perfect.

If I'm comprehending your other posts in here correctly, are you saying that the soil has been sitting around for a bit and the pictures you posted are from a while back?

What I mean is, has the soil been maintained since you stopped using it?

The reason I ask is because while you'll definitely experience similar results to the first time by re-amending, but the real benefit of no-till is keeping the soil maintained when it's not in use. If you haven't been watering the bed then it's likely a lot of the microbes have died, so when you re-amend you'll be re-establishing the microbiology as opposed to adding to it's growth. You'll still get great results, just not "no-till" results if that makes any sense? I have some 25g pots full of Coot's Mix that have been going for nearly 4 years now. I stopped using them for weed after the first year due to not growing indoors anymore, but they've been used for vegetables for the last 2-3 years. Plants grow better and you have to put in a lot of effort to kill anything planted in them because of how strong the microbiology is in those pots specifically.

I always compare soil/microbiology to that of a city. Imagine you have two cities, one city is called No-Till and the other city is called ROLS (Recycled Organic Living Soil).

The ROLS city builds itself up from a single building to a small sized town, however at the end of the year the citizens of ROLS blow up the town and start again from scratch.

No-till City never starts over, over time it will eventually become a full blown metropolis. However, after a while (dependent on the volume of soil) the "city" will decompose into pure compost with perlite/pumice/source of aeration that isn't rice hulls. It will become some of the best compost you've used, and if it's mixed with a new batch of peat moss ASAP then the metropolis will be back in full swing within another year or so.

After getting my soil tested a few times, I came across this product from BAS called Big 6. I was always low in Manganese and I would always have problems fixing it, so I'm going to start using this stuff myself. He explains it in this video:

Hey dude,

I’m hoping you are able to steer me on the right direction. I’m small home grower, that starting using coot’s mix my last run. I grew 5 plants all in 1gal coot’s mix, and was planning on putting them in a large pot once they showed sex. All were male and had to scrap them. I kept the soil and recycled the root ball in my worm bin. So now I have all that soil, how would I reamend it. I’m going to the no till style, seeing as my female is in a 5 gal pot and after this run is over I would like to put it in a 10 gal pot. So how would I get up to speed with the soil I am reamending. Is it just kelp and neem or do I need to add the minerals, etc. in? I know people suggest 15 gal, I don’t have that type of space

After a full run including flower its a loose rule of 50% of the original inputs back in. (Minerals included) If you only veg in the dirt you can always start at 25 or 30% and top dress from there. I have pulled coots and other organic grows in as small as one and 3 gallon BUT 10 is the minimum id ever recommended. Even 15 gallon seems a tad bit small for very vigorous plants imo. What kind of space you working with?

Happy growing!

hey thank you for the percentages. The soil that o dumped out didn’t make it to flowering. I’m using a homemade grow cabinet, it’s 18”x32”x 60”. I’ll be upgrading here in a couple months. I’m growing Stardawg f2 by Greenpoint seed and it’s on day 42. It’s growing really well. I also use KNF inputs and have my own worm bin. I’ll post some up to date photos of it.

So just to be sure when you top dress with 50% of nutrients and minerals, you put all 50% down and cover with like gro kashi and EWC/compost? Wouldn’t that tank the pH? Get too hot?

Also, after you have top dressed with 50% of the coot’s mix, are you done with the minerals part? Like you won’t have to top dress glacial dust, or gypsum, etc.
