RDWC Control reservoir question.

Hello everyone,

Currently building my new RDWC System. I will have 4 plants, 2 in each 27 gallon tote. The totes are 15 inches in height. Does my control reservoir need to be the same height? Can I get a larger/taller control reservoir? Like a big tall trash can and be good, when I say good, I mean will I have a problem keeping the water level height in the growing containers?

Yes your control bucket needs to be the same height as the plant sites...otherwise the control will flood the plant sites. Once you connect several containers they act as one...you cant have two different water levels in the same container.

A float valve opens and closes depending on water level...have a look in the tank of your toilet. So you could use one to refill a hydroponic system as the plants use it, maintaining a constant water level.

So if I decided to use a taller control reservoir, a float valve will help me in my setup? The float valve will keep the water level at my desired height?

As long as the float valve is set to the same level as your plant sites. For example...if your plant sites are 16" tall but your control is 20"...your float valve needs to be located at like 15" from the bottom of your control.

As long as the float valve doesn't get something stuck in the seat to keep it open.

You dont really need a float valve unless you want to use a top-off res. If your new to dwc/rdwc it might complicate things. But they do allow you to walk away for a few days if you cant check on things regularly.
