Random Crosses, What to expect?

I made a bunch of F1 crosses for seed a couple years ago and will be trying them outside. I'm not really sure what to expect, but I imagine I should wind up with a few good phenos. What do you guys think that have more experience with this?
I have the following crosses
strawberry cough from Dutch Passion X Haze Heaven Soma Seeds
OG kush from Reserva Privada X Haze Heaven
Destroyer from Cannabiogen X Haze Heaven
Early Skunk from Sensi Seeds X Haze heaven

It's not as simple as taking names of strains that you have crossed and determining traits based on that. In fact, the science runs much deeper, or we would have multiple breeders out there. It can take years to produce a good cross. These guys study traits, dominance, genetic makeup, etc. It's not as simple as taking plant A and pollinating plant B. However, it is possible to stumble upon a desirable cross, but it is highly unlikely such hit and miss science would produce a second desirable cross from the same "breeder"

You very well may. Even after you identify an ideal pairing of strains, it can take months, if not years to match up the ideal phenos and mothers. I just know realized where I know this stuff from.... a recent edition of High Times regarding the CC and how to enter your bud for a shot at the cup.

For anyone that dreams of breeding a cup winner, it is a great read.

Thanks, that makes sense. Hopefully I luck out with a few good phenos, we'll see.

Sounds good, I'll have to read that article. I am still amazed when I meet a beautiful girl that has ugly parents. I always wonder, how did she come from them. I would really like to learn more about breeding.

That would be a cross generational trait... one that skips a generation. The child's Grandparents were likely candidates for looks. It works the same way with breeding. You may have to raise several generations of a strain before you even reach the traits you are looking for. It's like a blond haired child being born to parents with brunette hair; likely, one of the parents has a sibling or parent with blond hair, and that trait was carried by the parent and it became dominate.

I see. Do you have any suggestions for other good literature I could read to learn more about the subject.

you know, unless you're looking to spend a whole lot of time and money trying to find the next "it" strain, you should do fine. i don't know about anyone else, but i don't need a cadillac to get me there, i do fine with a volkswagen. most of the smoke out there these days is pretty good just like it is, go for it!!!
