So as some of you may or may not know...raised bed is the way to go! I use it for all my vegetables every year...retains more heat then your ground soil ...so you can put your plants in a wee bit earlier, not to mention the many other beneficial things raised beds can do for you. So I cant really take credit for this cause a friend came up with the idea. Basically its a kiddie pool with top half cut off, its 6' wide. I go all organic, mixture of compost and manure, MG organic garden, and scotts top soil for the top layer. I used 4 3' 1" stakes some chicken wire and some thin plastic mesh for the top ( we have crazy birds and rabbits) remember to tear some nice holes in the bottom for drainage. I also have some spare logs from a tree fall during winter that are added in the bottom, this could be done using anything though....even the styrofoam packing pellets. I have june bearing and year bearing strawberries...some I have already picked...
With this method I believe tearing the runners out for next year will be much easier, then if I had put them in ground soil......next year on my 4 acre plot I plan on having 10 or more of these scattered around.
