well, today i attempted to add some more plants into my secret garden. unfortunately it was raining all day yesterday and my land is flooded. the water is not over the top of my plants that i had already on the ground. will my plant survive drowning under the water for a few days?

another problem - does anyone know if the "perlite" can attract any type of animal? i mixed some perlite in a couple hole for the plants and they all was dugged out by some type of animals.

it really shouldnt drown ur plants since there is other vegetation on the ground im assuming...after a few days its shold be soaked up...we just had our major flood here in jerz which left us flooded for a couple days...iunno but the perlite but i mixed some sphagnum peat moss to my soil and it looked like some animal dug it up also

well. im glad to know that your babies survived thru it. i hope mine will too. about the plants got dug up. it gotta be the perlite since you mentioned that u mixed with perlite and it got dug up. i had 17 plants down-3 holes i mixed with perlite for experiment and all those three hole got dug up and left the rest alone. my question is what kinda animals could it be? i know for fact that my secret garden doesnt have bear, deer, cow or anytype of them wild animals. i know for sure there is rabbit and beaver. hmmm ????

I once had small plants covered in a few inches for 3 days, i only lost about ten percent...ya never know what will happen with curious animals, one of the reasons i use virmiculite instead, it absorbs water, and isn't as visible to plants and animals. also if you are bringing soil into the hole you have to consider that the animal is smelling something in the soil it thinks it might like, it's always best to prep the soil the fall before or at least a week or two before the plants go in, so the animals have time to get used to the new smells and the dirt can compost a little better as well. if there are beaver around i would probably guess wood chuck or racoon, two very curious waterside species that can give you hell. have you thought about a fence?
