QWET keeps bubbling over when removing ethanol

Sorry about the bad picture, but I'm trying to removing the ethanol at 78C and the my QWET made with dry ice keeps bubbling up and I have to take the glass off to let the bubbles recede.

Sad days... I lost more than half this batch once I walked away thinking it was going to bubble, Came back and it was all over the plate.

Nothing I search comes up with this issue so. Does this happen to you folks? If so, how do you keep the QWET from bubbling over while trying to evaporate the ethanol?

Wait to pull full vacuum until more of the alcohol is gone. I bring it up to heat and then start vacuum. When the boiling becomes too intense, I back off until it calms down and then proceed again until I reach full vacuum.

I started with a small still and a hand pump. If your system doesn't leak vacuum you won't have to pump that much. If you use a lab pump be sure to vent it to the outside or bad things could happen. You know, like being overcome by the fumes that didn't blow up your lab.

One important thing if you don't want it to bump is use a stir bar if you have a magnetic stirrer.

Another important thing is listen to Fadedawg. I think he is on another website with solid info. If you want the link just reply to this and I'll look it up. (If I leave replies before posting it's gone when I come back.)

Graywolf's Lair is @: https://graywolfslair.com/index.php

The QWET article is at:

Thanks!!! I have shortcuts to both places on my home screen.
I've wanted to start a thread "Ligit MMJ Home Labs" but I worry that someone will get hurt so if it goes beyond a simple answer I have sent people there.

Hopefully, next time I extract from bud I'll try RSO v2.0. I like to Extract from bubble hash. Much faster and easier, at least for me than the old way. Somewhere it was mentioned that there are other benefits to ISO?

If you are trying to boil off the alcohol in an open container, you will also have issues with explosive "bumping", which are large sudden bursts of bubbles that blow the solution out of the container.

You can control that by adding "boiling chips" and filter them out once the solution gets reduced some. I use broken glass or glass beads for that purpose.

Another way is to stick several bamboo skewers in the open container to act as points of bubble nucleation, so that many small bubbles are produced vis a vis bursts of large ones.
