I know I've read this before and I've searched up and down and cant find what I read: Do the SH nutes raise or lower PH?

Depends on your water source. SH nutes come PH balanced. As your plants eat nutes your ph will rise.

water is 5.4 from the tap, ph will go up?

do you have PH up and down? If so after you add your nutes check it and adjust accordingly, no big deal.

Wow! 5.4 pH!!!! - How can your pH from the tap be that low? Is that city water? Mine city water runs around 8. Is your meter calibrated correctly? I pH my water before I add disolved SH nutes to the tank, and then I pH it again after the nutes have had a chance to dissapate in the water (30-60 min). I use SH nutes and the pH usually stays within the 5.8-6.5 growing range without much fuss.

5.4, city water from the tap. I live in a desert city in So Cal. I just bought a pur water filter for the faucet, now its showing 5.8 and the chlorine smell has gone away. I plan on doing the same thing as you (with the nutes).

My strips look to be about 6.8 or 7, I should recalibrate my meter!
