Quick Question, some help please concerning hydro medium

Hello all, I bought almost all my DWC supplies, before I started I just wanted to ask a couple questions.

I have the hydroton pellets, do I need rockwool also? My plan was to stick to how I know I clone, with a 8 site bucket cloner, then I was going to take that cutting once it rooted and put it into my net pot filled with half hydroton then fill the rest, and cover the site (not the cutting) with a plate or something to block light.. I'm in MI, so now I'm not to worried about res temps, if it becomes a issue use a frozen water bottle.. Now my average temp in my veg tent is 78 with light on, and 68-70 with light off... My flower tent is about 73 with lights off and 82 with lights on...

I have been a successful soil grower since the summer lol, but looking at some DWC yields, I want to try that..

Again if I'm using cuttings/clones do I still need the rockwool or rapid rooters? I don't think I would risk starting a seed in the DWC, I would germ it, put it in soil, and when I could cut some clones put it into the DWC that way. Any help would be appreciated, I intend on buying supplies today if needed.. All I need is a PPM/TDS meter and the rockwool if needed.. I may buy some advanced Nutes or GH nutes, I use Fox Farm for soil...

I may try to run 2 DWC buckets while it's cool outside... it seems simple enough... I would rather not buy any kind of secondary medium(Rockwool, rapid rooters) if it isn't crucial I tried jiffy peats for soil and it didn't work... now I'm not saying I'm beyond fucking up.... but my standard way of germing (The paper towel method) has had 100% success for me.. Somewhere abouts are some of my grow pics..

That being said I am never going to completely abandon soil...

Just hydroton is the way to go. Once your roots show thru your netpot drop the water level an inch or so.

I start seeds that way.

Just let roots get long enough and I weave them thru the slots on a netpot and filled the area around the roots with hydroton to keep the plant secure.

even better would be to try to get the roots on your clones out the bottom of the netpot so they can dangle in the water. then kinda fiil up your netpot with the hydroton.

but yes, no media other than hydroton is needed.

Thanks everyone, thats what I'm going to do, when the clone roots get long enough, weave them though the net pot and start my DWC that way..

i'm guessing most netpots are the same. i cut out the very center "cross" of plastic in the center of the bottom. that gives about a inch square hole in the bottom to easily pull the roots thru.

the net pot makes roots go out the sides, well see.. holds plant better than out the bottom something new that's all...

Thank you sir, I have a HTG near me also, I've given them enough cash lol. I'm gonna build my 2nd bucket today

HTG Supply points got me a new 16" fan free and still have 400 points
