I'm not to sure if it will stress the plant out, but I don't see any reason to not use the 1k setting at all times. They say for each watage that's how many g's you'll get...... Maaayyyybbbbeeeeee you'll end up with 800 g's since u kept switching

I start with my light dimmed and light close. As the get bigger I spread them out and crank up the wattage.

No it won't stress them, think about the cloudy days outside. The reason we pound the light is more light equals more product. Dropping your watts to 600 and using the same 1000 watt bulb will shorten the bulbs life greatly, if you really want to switch back and forth pick up a 600 bulb and replace it when necessary.

I would use the 1000 all the time and figure out a way to deal with your heat issues. A single 1000 watt bulb over one plant can and does produce 700g, so don't think you have to cram the room full, more plants does not equate to more bud.
