i have 1 quart of water and i need to make it a ph of 13ish. i have 100% sodium hydroxide... how much would i have to add into the water to make it to 13?
Ok, so PH 13 from NaOH. It should be about .1 mole / liter of water. So that means about 4 g of NaOH is used to make 1 liter of water 13 PH if the water is neutral. If you can't do that then you probably didn't take grade 12 chemistry.

Actualy even I use more than that amount, that is just the common guidline for a minimum. Once the pH starts tanking, emulsions form, and that is a bitch to deal with... an ounce of prevention and all that...
Just check and see how much lye you can get into the water before it stops melting away... I like to filter the lye water through a coffee filter before proceeding.
Remember to add it in little bits and have a cold water bucket ready to immerse your bottles in if they start getting too hot at the bottom.
But yeah, people don;t realy get how far even a few specs of lye will move the pH from neutral. nor do they realise that 13 is 6 orders of magnitude more alkaline than 7, rather than a smooth sliding scale.
usually add around 6 teaspoon of lye maybe a lil more. 3 teaspoons at first then pour in some lye until i hear sound coming out of my bottles lol. ive started yielding closer to 1% for every g since i started doing 4 pulls per 1 bottle with 28g of rootbark in a single bottle (use 5 bottles all together).
anyway.. fat crystals off my 4-6th pull on first batch with 2 weeks of downtime between the 3rd and 4th pull (this is the 45g in 1 bottle). everyone seems to love the stuff. i just dont recommend my approach because i might be using too much lye and i didnt pass chem. but it works! lol
new batch in the freezer right now
its gonna be like christmas morning again
