Questions About How To Grow Outside

Hi all,

I've been searching around in the Outdoor section and I can't seem to find exactly what I am looking for. I'm planning to grow outside (will be my first grow) after winter (I live in the Northwest of the states) and I'm trying to decide how exactly to go about it. Space is not an issue. I'm thinking of growing around 10 plants, maybe a few more, maybe a few less once everything is settled. I have a few questions:

My initial idea was to go out and dig a bed for my plants and then fill it with Fox Farm Organic Potting Soil.

If I grew around 10 plants, how big should I make the plot (length x width x height)?

How far apart from each other should the plants be?

I feel like a common trend among first time growers (from what I've seen on here) is going wild with nutrients. It seems like way too much for such a simple (well, not simple, but you get what I mean) plant. If I just plant them in some Fox Farm Potting Soil, care for them, water them, etc. will that last until harvest or do I want to be doing other things to them? I'm trying to understand how all this nutrients feeding works and I know everyone has their own techniques.

Can I just plant them straight into the ground first thing after germination or do I need to start them out in small cups first and then transplant them after they get a bit bigger?

One more thing -- what's a good beginner outdoor strain?

Thanks in advance!
