Questions about DWC

I thought I would be able to get most of my information just reading but there are some things I'm not clear on and cant find with the search function

In a dwc exactly how deep do the net pots have to be in the water in order to get the roots sufficiently fed?

after starting a plant from seed how long until I can stop watering the plant by hand and let the bubbler do that for me?

what is said is that the water level should be the bottom of the cup then as you see roots it should be 1 inch below
you should be able to stop hand feeding when the first roots come outa the cup
im no pro at this but that is what i was told
i had some trouble at this until i put a fish filter in there and set it as a drip feeder until the roots got outa the medium and were getting water on them from the bubbles
im gonna give this another go soon and i think is a rad way to grow
