If i cut the lowest leaf off on my plant and put soil over that point would it develop roots ?

It may, but this is not recommended as you can cause damp off.

Fungal. It mostly happens to young plants that don't yet have woody stems. The base of the stem looks pinched and the plant dies. You can search google for it "damping off"
