So far it doesn't really smell unless I smell it up close and it just smells like a plant. Can I keep it at one size by reducing the amount of light during veg and just keep it alive?

the bigger the pot the bigger the plant

and yes to top and sometimes in regards to transplanting the top

Someone destroyed your window blinds? WTF? If you have no ventilation at all, I would think that's going to slow down your growth.
