Question on drowning roots

I have grown 3 plants for 9 weeks now. I had them in 2" netpots in a bubbleponic container then went to a 5" net pot in a little bigger container. After they got up to about 10" tall i put them in a 8" pot that fits a 3gal. bucket. I put air stones in the bottom of the buckets and filled3/4 with nutrient water. I have changed the water every 6 days. they been like that for the past 4 or 5 weeks. They are about 3ft. tall and bushy green healthy looking plants but i wonder if haviing all that root mass immersed in the water could drown the roots?? So far so good. I keep the air pumps on 7-12 and it seems like the deeper the water the better they do. This is the first time i have grown like this, i just been busy and got lazy and it seems to work but i don't want to drown them. Any advice is welcome. Thanks

You want your water level to be about 3 inches below the bottom of the net pot. The roots in the water drink, the exposed roots gather the oxygen needed. Nothing drowns.

Sounds great, for the most part i have had the water about like that. I guess that's why they're looking so healthy. I remembered someone saying you can drown them by keeping the medium to wet during the seedling stage and this type of growing is new to me. I gotem this far so i sure don't want to mess up now. Anyway> Thanks for the info!!!

I fill my water level up to the bottom of the net pot (and thus the bottom of the rockwool.) In the next 24 hrs the levels down a few inches anyway, and I fill up again.

It's personal preference whether you aero a lil or completely submerse your roots and go full blown DWC. One factor in choosing is air flow.

Good luck.
