Question about roots??

I want to set up a flood table with my plants in net pots. I don't want to fill the tray with hydroton just the net pots. Can the roots be exposed to light? Or do I have to cover them when they grow out the sides of the net pots?

Roots should never be exposed to light for any prolonged period of time. In other words: The roots should never be exposed to light while growing, but popping them out to check on their health now and again is fine.

Don't know about filling the try with hydroton. I'm pretty sure people just put plastic over the table to shield it from the light. But I have no experience with your method of growing, so don't take my word for it.
