question about rockwool

the drizzle

when i went to the hydro shop yesterday to pick up my set up, the guy gave me a a 3" rockwool cube to germ my seed in. he said get it wet, not soaked, but damn, drain the extra water, and just cover it up in a tupperware or something and let it do its thing...

now when do i put the rockwool cube in my net pot with my hydroton and like actually in my bubble bucket? when the roots grow through the bottom of the cube? or when it sprouts? i mean can i just put it in there now before it germs with the water barely touching it?

this is my first hydro attempt so i'm a little confused as i've always only just dropped a seed in a dirt and let mother nature take over

hey Drizzle
I'm also having the same question
I had 3 earth harvest, which were successful
But now it is Hydro time.

Did he tell you what to wet it with? Typical hydro store joker.

Germ your seed in the rockwool cube, and a week after sprouting you can put the cube into your bucket.

Its hard for me to believe he didn't mention ph. You do have to understand there are somethings they can't say. If any of the folks at the hydroshop make a statement that I'm not sure about, I always ask them "What do you mean?" VV

I was one of those "jokers" for a few years....

and believe me...the completely idiotic questions *in store* were as blatant as they are on this board...

Flush the cube with plain water in the sink for 10 minutes, then soak it for 24 hours in 5.5 pH adjusted water. Squeeze out most of the moisture..plant...then cross your fingers.

good luck

Good advice, but if they are Grodan you don't have to soak them that long, maybe a couple of hours. And NEVER squeeze rockwool. Just shake or sling the excess water out.

i used a ph stabilization solution for my rockwool i let it sit there all night then flushed it out and still had a high ph, rockwool just tends to have a high ph and will always rise if u dont constantly adjust it

I dont even really soak my rockwool and it doesnt make a difference. Rockwool now has a pretty neutral pH i find so i dont bother most of the time.
