Question about flowering...

I think that I read too much...I just read on a post that when you first go to flowering, 12-12, you need to keep them in the dark for 36 hours. is that True, or do I immediately go to 12-12 and switch to 2 white and 2 red?

I do use the 36 hour dark period, although not nessecary.

I feel IMO that it helps the plant realize it is time to flower, but I also use a 24/0 Veg timetable, so it is the first time my plants have ever seen darkness.

I have had vegged plants come out of the 36 hour dark period fully sexed when they had no preflowers going in, whereas If I didnt do it it would take a week for flowers to show on the plants.

Thanks dude. if I do the 36 hour thing, will they still double in size during the flowering stage, still need to be watered (I hear it has to be completely dark), or will it hurt the plants?:peace:

Yes the plant will grow during the two month long flowering stage just fine, 36 hours of intial darkeness effects nothing regarding its growth overall.

I water them Right before lights out a generous serving of water, then do the 36 dark and no water all the way out of it.

Havent had any die on me yet...

Yes pitch black darkeness always, light leaks will cause hermphaditic plants, as well as confused plants will lower yeilds.

The darker the btter.

i never done the 36 thing before and never had a problem. yes they will still double. dont need to water in the 36 just water b4 if they are dry. any ammount of light can confuse them so nopeeking durring dark time.

I agree that the 36 hour period works. I had my plant show sex within 3 days of flower, and I contribute that to the 36 dark period. Also it is correct to give them a thorough watering prior to the dark period. I have only done it this way, so maybe it would have been the same had I not used the dark period. I have also heard folks doin 24,48, and 72 hour dark periods, just FYI.

Do what GG is saying! It doesnt hurt anything and you can tell the sex sooner, waiting sucks! Heres a pic I took today of a plant that just spent 36 hours in complete darkness. Pic was taken through a 10x lens

Its a cheap little eyepiece my dad uses for looking at diamonds, I was surprised to see the camera get a good pic through it. If your gonna get one I have to warn ya, youll be spending a lot of time staring at your plants through it

Im not sure really, its my dads and hes had it forever, Ill ask him and let you know, Ill also put a pic of it up later so youll know what it looks like
