Yeah leave it alone, although the plant would survive, it does need some leaves to make food and for photosynthesis.

No, no.. I know this one.. It's a trick question... I think I got this on a math quiz once..

Those are FAN LEAVES.... do not cut! If they start to shade lower developing buds you can move them out of the way (tuck them under other leaves) but don't cut them. They are important to the plant's development
