Question about aero cloning.

So I bought this aerocloner from a buddy and i have the little plastic net cups and the styrofoam tops that fit in to hold the plant but my question is how will I plant the clones when they start growing roots? I will be growing them hydroponically but wont I damage the roots when I transfer them in to some rock wool cubes. I am brand new to aerocloning and if someone could help me out here I would most greatly appreciate it. Also I have heard you can aeroclone without cloning gel. Is that true?

No it really won't, as long as you don't subject them to too much light, don't let them dry out and be VERY careful not to break them. I havent heard of not using gell except in the growfaq where it says to stick the clones in water, so better be safe than sorry.

I'd say wait till at least one of them is an inch long, that way you don't run the risk of breaking them too easy.

cool, thanks I'm getting some tomorrow. I went to the hydro shop yesterday but they closed at 4 and I got there at 5. Thanks for the info.

ya one is White Skunk and the other is from a bag of Feminised White Label seeds. All came from the Sensi Seed bank. I took a little trip to Amsterdam last month and picked me up some goodies while there.

Hi tokin Tide.

coupla thoughts...

what is the purpose of trying to go from bare root into the cubes? Are you wanting to grow full-term in RW cubes or do you just think you need a substrate to hold the roots////etc.?

IMO this isn't a good way to go. If you clone aeroponically you can simply place the bare roots in hydroton for drip/ebb/flow...or into coco or soil..etc for that type of approach. The only way I know of to go from aeroponic clones into rockwool would be to SPLIT the cube and stick the bare rooted clone in there...and that will seriously flatten the rootball and may kill the plant or severely stunt it.

good luck

actually this is what I have been trying to figure out. The roots will be totally exposed so I didn't know what the medium would be. I assumed rockwool. So what your saying is I can just use the hydroton as the medium and it would hold the plant just fine?

OK..cool. I wasn't sure where you were trying to go here and didn't want to confuse/critique if you had something going I wasn't aware of.

Yes..you can use just hydroton for the medium. MANY systems use this medium...flood/drain...drip...DWC. Most folks use "mesh pots" or net pots nd the roots just grow out the sides/overtake/fill the spaces betwenn the clay pebbles. The only real downside is that they don't hold much moisture so if the system has a problem and water isn't introduced on time things will go to Hell very quickly.

You can also go into straight perlite and do a "hempy" bucket or "auto pot" (search!) type grow. These are easy and produce well if you are there to manually water daily/every other day...etc. (or set it up auto)

or soil..or coco...etc. From bare root you can easily go into just about any medium BUT rockwool...

if you wanna try rockwool...clone in it and then do the building block system and go into a larger cube(s) when they get rooted...

hope that helped

good luck

hey tide,
here's what I do man. i have one of those 45 site store bought aerocloner with the humidity dome. I put my cuttings in the neoprene inserts that fit right into the system. I dont dip my cuttings in rooting hormone. I put them right into the cloner after cutting them. I use humboldt roots at 1-2ml per gallon, and clonex clone & seedling food at half the suggested strength in the resevoir of the aerocloner. PH 5.8.... this is a costly way to do it, but it gives me 100% success, which means roots in a week to a week & a half..
