Question About a Curing Jar

So i picked up this massive jar at a garage sale. Its not air sealed like a mason jar but the lid sits pretty flush with the jar. Do you think this jar will do the job?

Ideally i would want to be able to cure whole branches in it.

if it dont seal its no good for storage

Yeah, if it doesn't seal pretty tight it won't be good for long term storage. But that's not to say you can't get it to seal - you could pick up some sheet foam at a craft store or rubber gasket material at a hardware store and cut a circle to fit.

That is a great idea. You think like plumbers tape would work if i layered it up pretty good?

Put some plastic over the top before you cover it!

Hey Buddy,

You can use that car for the curing process. I've been using tins for years with great success and they are not air tight whichis really the beauty. It not open enough to dry things out too fast but enough air leaks in to help the cure along.

Once it's fully cured (dry) you might want a better seal if you plan on that jar having a shelf life....if you'll be opening a few times a day anyway then airtight doesn't really matter then now will it?

i use jars like that...go to hardware store, get a tube of clear silicone and run a "bead" around the top rim, wipe off excess silicone....let dry
over night and you have a perfect seal for the life of that jar.its water proof and wont come off or wear off over time.my jars have the wire sping mech. to tightly seal the lid. but a strong rubber band or som tape can work as well. just get a lil pressure on that seal. good luck!

also....thats a big jar with lots of drying potential,if you only have a little product to put in it...it will dry out "too" much. big jars are not good for long term shelf life unless 1/2 to3/4 full. i use bigger containers {jars} when ive a big enough harvest,and they hold alot of air. But that jar would be great for the (first part) of your cure. just be cautious it will dry much faster.........good luck!

Thank you all for your help . I will be taking a trip to the Home Depot real quick. Im about to chop five plants so it should be just the right size.
