QB Watts vs Blurple Watts

So I finally got my QBs in! HLG 320 3000k

So I’ve been pulling 370 Watts from the wall with my blurples and they’re pretty bright.

I started my QBs at 250 AND HOLY SHIT THEYRE AS BRIGHT AS THE SUN

How do I relate the two?!

I’m in flower and I was thinking of starting at 24” rather than 18 and leaving them at 250

The difference is insane to anyone wondering.

I feel like even at 250 they’re going to roast the plants!!

I do have a Lux meter and although not ideal for measuring LEDs I can at least get the two lights in a similar range.

Any tips are appreciated.

please do i am interested in the difference and i bet allot of people are.

The par charts on hlg's website should give you some basics. If you have the 320w xl fixture, I would run them at 18" in my grow.

You can use half the watts with QB vs blurple they are super bright but won't fry your plants if your using 2 QB at 250w you could run them at 18" with no problems if you see problems at that height it's defeciency not the light.

Really? I've seen that question answered a few times people usually just don't trust the answer. Most common problem I see is people thinking they burned their plants when it's really a defeciency.

Leave them at 18” .... 250 w is fine .

Quantums BLEACH and stress at close distances UNLESS they are dimmed down.
But there is no reason to run too soft . They’re sweet spot is between 50/60 watts per board ...
With a high efficiency. These are Mid Power leds ( 301b or lm561c ) so there best are at moderate levels.

There is absolutely no reason to think you need to crank a 1000watts out of them.

The phototropic effect will be evident ( pray ) and it will dictate the plants response.
A lot of growers moving to Quantums find it hard to believe you can grow better at reserved power levels.

People don’t get what lumens are and how human eye perceives light. Blurples need to be many times more powerful for you to perceive them as bright as white light. They don’t emit green or yellow or orange, which are the brightest colours to human eyes. Lumens will not mean anything with blurples. Just wanted rant about stuff
I haven’t used qbs yet, just upgraded to cobs but i heard only positive things and i am sure as the other guys said, you will not burn your plants with cobs at 18”. Also agree about running them softer, much more efficient that way.

Blurple compared to Quantums is like night and day.... literally.

Example :

Took a shit Mars 600 ... gutted it ... took blurple PCB and shitcanned.
Put a Quantum 304 ( 3500k ) in its place .... used one of the original drivers from panel .
Poof .... blurple killer.

It ran a 50 watt power level , lit a 3x3 for experimenting ( 4 plants )
That’s 5 watts per sq ft .
Literally.

So at reserved levels it will decimate any blurple panel whatever the hype.

Very nice. I would buy that light, if you package it and sell it with a profit margin of 100% at least.

Haha ... used a hammered finish rattle can on case ....

Left internal fans and driver intact .... perfectly cools unit .
S5 bin lm561c chips

It later was used in a bigger build ( 3 panel ) quantum ..





I actually look on Craigslist for junk panels that I might convert for shits and giggles.

Thanks for all the replies fellas! I dug through many forums and pages and found that 33-35 watts per sq foot was recommended on general basis. I have mine at 33 so 270 watts dimmed from a max of 340. I started at 22” height and working my way down.

The light is beautiful and mimics the sun, those questioning really need to give them a try, really brings out the beauty of the plants it’s unreal.

I won’t knock the blurples tho. I still stand by them as a great starter light. They gave me a solid 1.05g per watt and we’re great for learning the curve.

I can only imagine if I get the 2g per watt HLG says is average on their site

No doubt QB’s are tip top, but...... top quality blurple will give them a run for their money although the cost will be a fair bit more for said blurple.

Which top quality purple are you referring to? I’ve used kind leds, black dog, clw’s and the don’t come close to qb’s, cobs or strips. Hell still have a few xl1000’s from kind to off load.

ChilLED is sort of... pink.

HLG know fuck all about grams per watt seriously

I think Vitaly who flip his lid if someone called his light a blurple ....lol.

I think he would prefer multi adjustable spectrum light ...

grams per watt is a terrible measurement to go by, wayyyy to many factors and i am not seeing very many getting 2 grams per watt with LEDs besides with small micro grows.

Some HLG love right here
