I've heard it said that there are certain nutes/supplements that can be used to turn buds purple......
Anyone heard of this? What's the skinny?

...right, I grow strictly for consumption, and am growing W.W. which of course is not a purple strain.
I just recently saw a post on here about using something to make the buds actually turn purple.....just got my curiosity going as to how that might work, and why try to make the weed appear to be something it is not. I would love to try a purle strain someday, but I don't have access to any genetics, and I'm way too noid to order seed through the mail....

The easiest way to purple ur plants is to drop the nightime temps way down low. Any plants with the trait will change. Buds and leaves.

they weren't from seed. I saved my grow from a broken home as rooted clones, and have just continued to make cuttings to keep the genetics alive.

Hmm, that's interesting.
I've also heard it said that to allow the temps to go too low can result in hermies....is this not the case?

That is the case, stress can cause hermies
Making the temps low enough for the plant to change colors is considered stress at least in my eyes

Yea, I'm with you on that. I'm not actually wanting to do anything to my grow, just trying to learn more about it. I'm still what I consider to be a newb to growing, so I try to get as much input on a topic as I can before I make a decision as to whether or not to act. This was just something that sparked my interest.

That's pretty sweet! It seems like the purple trait tends to come out when it begins to flower, and gets more evedent as it matures. Is this typical of purple strains? Do they look like any other strain while in veg?

I've also heard about this, and have seen it in stalks and stems in my own grow before. I had often thought that this is what made these strains change color, but then, that would be counter-productive now wouldn't it!!

Well, I have just had plants go through a pretty good cold snap and three out of 30 purpled ... not a single one hermied. Weed is genetically able to deal with temperature swings.
