I used to pluck fan leaves on my plant till I was told that it was a bad idea. Well now the biggest and longest fan leaves are starting to turn purple on the stems.... Is that normal? What is that???:leaf:

I was told it also be about the plant being stressed, so I wanted to verify but thank you alonefarmer your valuable words....

You buy Botanicare Cal-Mag.

Description: A custom designed, highly beneficial calcium, magnesium, iron and trace mineral plant nutrient supplement that helps with calcium, magnesium and iron deficiencies in nutrient fertilizer programs.

Nitrogen def is more apt to show purple on the petiole/stem. Cal mag def will usually appear as a lush green leaf with brownish speckles on the face of the blades. It is correct that some strains will show some purple on the petioles/stems but my rule of thumb is to just up the N intake a bit. A nice green petiole/stem is always the sign of a healthy plant. Well maybe not always but its sure a good start, lol!

Namaste!

Also, cold temperatures will bring on purple by stopping selective nutrients from being absorbed.

well I got that brown speck problem too. Both problems are very minor as 95% of the plant is perfectly fine. Just nipping the problems in the butt ASAP. So I need to look into Cal-Mag and N nutrients..

Most cal/mag supplements will have trace amounts of N in them i.e 2-0-0 or 1-0-0 so you should be good with that. I recommend using Cali Magic from GH. It doesn't spike your ppm too high and at the same time it has a decent amount of nitrogen in it 1-0-0. So do a little shopping around and figure out whats right for you. Namaste!

What are your temps like when the lights are off. I had a similar occurrence happen to me. My temps were getting too cold in the night and some of my leave began to go blueish purple. I raised the temps and things were ine after that. Alot of ppl accually drop their temps in the last few weeks to get their leaves and budds to go purple so they can make up a nice name for it and sell it way over priced.
