An old school grower, and ("friend") said if I were to remove some of the bigger and older veg leaves the plant would put more energy into bud production, seems to me they are all ready there and just another source of gathering sunlight, anyone have any ideas, thanks. He aldo said it would allow sunlight to hit lower on the plant and increase size of lower buds????

i pull of those big sucker leaves when they stat to yellow and i trim leaves that r covering bud sites it makes a huge diff in thesize of the buds on ur lower branchs big fat thick ass buds everywhere sum people r gonna say its bad it is bad to cut alot but if u just trimming up acouple bud sites thatsfine i no many growers who do it and get huge yeids

Lets see now … you have a plant that relies on collecting solar energy so it can perform all its functions, including growth, and your friend does not think it is a problem to remove the plants largest most efficient solar collectors?

Furthermore those leaves are also factories that of course absorb light rays and transform it into plant energy but they also process sugars and chemicals and store it for later use by the plant, including of course the buds and the trichomes, but your friend said they would not be missed, right?

What the heck … listen to your friend, I’d say he knows what he’s talking about.

It seemed like common sense not to cut them, just thought I'd ask, I have taken off some of the dying leaves and some lower down, I guess I'll just ride it out now. Thanks for the info

The argument of removing giant canopy level fan leaves to allow light to the bottom is a bit ridiculous. It makes more sense (to me at least) to simply cut the tiny popcorn shoots along with their dangly stretched out leaves so they don't need light. They just stretch and waste energy.

The top canopy should be the bushiest part that purposely does not allow light to the baron stems underneith! Those lower bud sites and pathetic stretched tiny leaves aren't worth it in my experience.. (i don't have much rep here yet, but i'm sure a lot of experienced growers here feel the same way).

If the side shoot leaves on the bottom with a really stretched out stem, but the leaf itself is tiny. its using more energy to stretch than it is actually creating energy.
