'Protecting' your thermometer from radiant heat/energy...

I was just wondering if you think this should help...

Also, should I perhaps cover the outside with mylar? Not counting on the reflectivity benefitting the plant so much as keeping heat away from the thermometer.

Any helpful thoughts and advice is much appreciated as always.

Oh, I forgot ask if I should keep it open a little or open wider as shown in the pictures.
