Popular opinion isn't always the right thing to do. If the constitution says something, you can't simply overturn that based on popular whims.

It is over. If I understand this correctly, Prop 8 was judged to be unconstitutional so the vote doesn't matter. Maybe the homo-haters can try to change the cali constitution to forbid same-sex marriage like other states have done, but I really don't see that happening.
actually, it's not over at all. it's being appealed and mostly likely will be taken to the supreme court.
once again, NOBODY is being married in california today.

And everyone should be treated equally under the law. If marriage is a religious institution it has no business being regulated by laws. If it is a civil institution then it has no business being regulated by religion.

Anyone that supports Prop 8 is in my mind a bigot, I am sorry what reasons are there that can not be struck down by someone with half a brain to ban gay marriage. Guess what the idea of marriage was not created by the Christians, Jews, or Muslims. In fact anyone that has a taken a basic Anthropology course can tell you that marriage is defined in many different terms then the men + woman that the west is used to. I try not to make attack people personally but when you try to ram down your own closed minded ideals in other peoples lives, you deserved to be let know that you are a closed minded bigot.
Marriage is not really a religious institution, I can go and get married right now but till the state recognizes it, it means nothing. And with state recognizing the marriage comes the many perks that go along with it, that not even civil unions have. Imagine if this much energy could be directed at something useful like fixing our tax systems...wait no most people are stupid sheep.
