producing seeds

the whole reason i'd like to grow is just to make seeds. I like some kinds for medical purposes. I'd like to go to a doctor and get it. But what is fun to me is just to create seeds to pick out the best plants and find offspring with superior genetics and just forever propagate always producing the best offspring. I've done it with tobacco and tomatoes, but i'm obsessed with doing it with marijuana for some reason, even though it's illegal. But because I experience such different effects sometimes from different kinds, it makes me more curious to find out why. I like the scientific approach but also being a farmer. A scientific farmer, exploring this strange plant. If it were legal, think how many heirlooms you would find. Like thousands of different tomatoes, tobacco plants for every thing you could imagine. I know because it is illegal it is such a consequence but I am so drawn to that aspect why I want to grow it so bad, in the hopes in a few years i could breed the perfect plant for me. It'd be hard, but since I don't plan to sell it, and only need a little bit to actually use for medicine, the rest could just be for making seeds lol. I guess that is why I want to grow from seed not clone because with a clone you will never get any diversity, only a copy of the perfect plant for you. But then you'd get bored of the same thing over and over like eating meatloaf everyday. But with seeds you could in theory, produce infinite numbers of plants that over time, could show unique traits and produce something new and better. So is it a crazy obsession of mine to want to make seeds not to sell really but just because I want to make the perfect plant for me? and if I get bored I could just go back and creat the next perfect plant lol.

Its a good obsession.My day will come soon when i try my hand at breeding.

Well than thing will work out great for you as you are doing it out of interest. Awesome, which is a trait some growers should have...A passion for his/her Product!

The only downside is, you need a lot of plants if you hope to produce the next super genius in a shorter time. I'd only be growing maybe 6 plants so, it might take 20 years. But I like growing from seed. I don't have any kids and never will. So when I plant seeds, tobacco, tomatoes, flowers, they are my children. Some are brilliant, and I send them to college to learn. Some are athletic, so I send them to the gym. Some are artistic, so I send them to art school. Some are great musicians. Then some are sickly. Those are the ones I care for the most. Because if it lives, I am happy. It's children may produce the same illness, but then, they may produce something greater. The strange ones are the ones that almost always produce the most unique offspring if they survive. Some will inherit the illness though. But you care for them. If it is too bad, well, then it will not get married and have kids. But it's a unique individual, unlike a clone. Clones happen naturally, some plants produce mainly by cloning themselves so, it's not unnatural but seeds are like a mystery, you never know what it might grow into. I could just be wrong though, I've worked on a farm but only breed tomatoes and tobacco plants as a hobby. I'll probably stick to those the marijuana is too much trouble I could get into tand they won't care that I am disabled.

haha its funny you should say that, cause thats about how i feel about my plants as well, i dont have any kids and cant have any. So my lil babies are my lil babies, i even call them that and when they get sick or whatever, even call my 3 cats my kids, the wife even one father's day went out and got me card and signed all their names rofl.

lmao...I'm kinda the same way I can relate somewhat. It's a passion, and I love it so the two go well together...lol.

Did do some pollinating a while back - just pollinated one branch at a time, to get seeds for next year.

Nowadays I am lazier, just buy feminised seeds.
