What brand of drive is it? Go to there website and download the drivers.
it just says dvd rom compact disc
Is it usb or internal it has to have a brand somewhere open the drive
Umm... If it just says dvd rom, it won't burn cd's... It would say burner or writer on it somewhere...

Google or ask.com or something like that i'm sure you not the only one who this happened to type into google" my new internal cd burner won't work" and see what comes up you would be amazed at how specific some questions are and the answer is there just type
another good idea thanks for the help if i knew how to +rep i would for you 2 thank you guysThere should be a model or serial number on the case of the drive. You can try to google one of those.
Try and clear any unused drivers or old CD ROM drivers from your windows install
Run cmd (opens the command prompt)
Enter set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
This will allow the next setting which will make it possible for you to see them...
Open Device Manager
Click the View menu, select Show hidden devices (must be done each time you open the device manager)
Devices not present will have a lightened greyed (or washed out) icon
Right click the greyed out item and select uninstall to remove the device's drivers
i can;t see why it wouldn;t work with the default windows drivers.. I don;t think I've had to install a CD or DVD driver for the last few years
dis: Black BenQ Combo CD ReWriter/DVD CB523C, 16X DVD-ROM, 32X CD-RW, 52X CD-ROM, Dual Cooling System. OEM
You see the part I underlined? That tells what the drive will do. 16x dvd-rom, it reads (not writes) DVD's at 16x (speed), 32x cd-rw it will re-write a CD at 32x, 52x CD-rom it will read a CD at 52x. That drive will not write a DVD. It will write a CD though. You can RIP to your computer with any kind of drive. Hope that answers it.
