problem germinating

I have successfully germinated 17 of the seeds I bought from crop king seeds In the past.

I have been trying to germinate 4 more Using the same seeds and same method. 8 seeds have failed to germinate.

They all have the same problem they pop I see the tap root and then nothing. But soon a strange redish spot appears beside the taproot.

I'm trying another 4 seeds. Hopefully I just coincidently grabed 8 in a row that failed.. here's a pic of the seed..IMG_20150225_171813.jpgIMG_20150225_171813.jpg

Tell us the method. Sounds like the seeds are fine, but getting infected or dying then getting infected. They shouldn't be sealed in anything, ever. They shouldn't be submerged for more than 2 days. Air around them must be exchanged at least once per day.

Also what medium? If anything but hydro, I would plant directly in a small peat cup filled with the same medium, but bake the medium (while wet) until 180f to sterilize. Let cool then plant seeds and water again. Keep under humidity dome if needed, but make sure there are still some vent holes/leaks.

shotglass in watter for 2 days.
then inbetween a moist paper towel inside 2 dinner plates for the rest of the time.
plant when taproot is almost an inch.
using promix as my medium.
I have rockwool cubes.. would that be better the paper towel in plates?

I've had horrible results in rockwool, seed gets stuck too often trying to escape. Your issue is likely that it's staying too moist with no airflow and the bacteria win the fight.

Seed in a damp paper towel RO water put in open zip lock bag put on top of refrigerator check in 3 days for tap root plant in promix

I always germ in a paper towel. If you have good, viable seeds, the taproot will continue to grow and extend, right in your paper towel, sometimes getting 1/2" long (or more). I plant when they're about 1/4-1/2" long - :peace:

the red spot is the 'fore skin' how are you storing the seeds, I suspect a damping off infection to few details here, look to your storage as an issue ...store fresh seeds in a freezer in rice ...as the best way
