prevent stretched plants??

that depends on what lights you are using and what strain your growing and the environment mate?

keep the light scorce as close as possible to the tops of the plants without burning them . you can test the heat the light puts out with your hand

are you using CFLs or some other HI lights? cfls should be between an inch or two from the top of tha plant

You have to be really careful cause plants will shoot one to three inches sometimes nightly under the right environment. Top them and that will give you bushy and short. Don't let them get burned then your stuck with a recovery time you dont want. If you can keep your canopy even its better also which i'm sure you know.
