Preparing soil for germinated seed..?

Is there any proper way to prepare the soil for a germinated seed or can I just sow it on it once the tap root is exposed?

give the soil a thourogh soaking the night before you sow, this gets all the soil wet but gives it enuff time to drain out and bring it up to room temp. this avoids shocking the root too much and also stop you moving the already placed seed by pouring water on it. after that you shouldnt need to water the seeds for about a week, just give it a spray a few times a day.
