Pre-grow noob lightning question

Hi everyone. I'm new here and new to growing. I've been doing lots of research for a micro grow I'm setting up. I live in a small apartment in the city and just don't have room for a tent..yet.
My plan is to grow an auto plant in a 3-5 g air/smart pot (transitioning to hempy bucket after a few grows) inside a 32gallon trash can. I'll be wiring the can with in/out fans and a door for access.

Here's where I question.....my plan is to build a custom cob light.
3 x Vero 29 37v 3000k 90cri powered by a hlg 185-c1400b. I was planning on wiring a potentiometer for the dimmer, thinking this light will be bright and maybe need to be dialed back at beginning of grow.

Does this sound like it will work?
Am I missing something in the design?
Any feedback is welcome.

Thanks

3 Vero 29s inside a trash can is way too much light period IMO.
I use three inside a 2X4X7 tent with great success.
Get some CFLs for a grow like that. It's all you'll need.
When you eventually get a tent and some COBs you can use the trash can setup to start seedlings.

Thanks. I thought it might be overkill, hence the dimmer. I'll scale it back and and add the cobs later

Running 3 veros on a dimmer is more efficient than running 2 at full blast from what I understand but I'm no expert, I am currently working on some diy leds and this was suggested from some very reliable sources. Plus if you upgrade to a bigger tent you will want the extra light im sure.

And why spend money on cfls if you are planning on getting better lighting eventually? In my opinion you should buy once. I started my current grow with a shitty chinese blurple but if I could do it again I would have just spent the money on my cobs and did it right.

Yeah I wouldn't buy a blurple either.
But CFLs are a great tool to have ... and they will pay for themselves.
There's plenty of reasons to start with CFLs in a small setting for a first timer.
They're idiot proof.
Minimal heat.
Economical.
A 250W should be plenty in a trash can. Swap spectrums for flowering.
It just seems like such a small space to rig Veros into.
Then you'll have to reconfigure them for a tent.
Plus the LEDs aren't quite as good for vegging as the blue Kelvin CFLs.
They will.
But CFL is better.

And he's using a trash can (which is pretty cool) to grow in.
Cant have much horizontal space in there.
With an autoflower which will be shorter.

Either way you go, cool idea.
Post pics.
