Ppm feeding

Ok yes i am new my grows are going quite well with exception on my pk ripper clone i put in a dwc. but my real question I changed my 55 gal drum almost 4 weeks ago i was getting a reading of 1190ppm when settled.. I do have a 4" disc airstone and a recirculating pump in my res since i use dry nutes. Now heres the kicker my ppm's are still at 1130 after almost 4 weeks and the growth is phenomenal. I guess I'm wondering i was told to change it at least once a week, i gotta ask is WHY. if my ppms are still good i will say these girls to drink a lot of water

ok heres break down
1st week 50 gal water base ppm 230 after nutes added 1190
2 week water at 30 gal base ppm 1150 added 20 gal straight tap
3 week water at 25 gal base ppm 1138 added 25 gal straight tap
4 week water at 40 gal ppm 1138 added 10 gal straight tap water.

I guess why would i change weekly if water is not funky low ppm and not warm my water stays at 68 degrees at all times +_ a few. no chiller View attachment 3035777View attachment 3035778I guess what i m asking is if it aint broke i shouldn't fuck with it right???
thanks guys

I wouldn't fuck with it. Those folks who need to change the res every week or two are people using 5 gal. buckets and shit like that. I don't think if your running a 50 gal res you need to change it that much. Smell it and if it smells good and your ph and ppm is not all over the place you should be good.

damn sam, that's a big rez! how many plants feeding out of it? one reason for changing out the rez, is that the plants will eat what they want, when they want. after a while, certain nutes that the plants are eating, will diminish, and those will no longer be available to the plant. unless you're garden is huge, you don't really need a rez that large. 5 gal. per plant is fine.

YEs its a mess in there i know i had everything perfect until my control system took a shit on me. now got shit everywhere lol

checked ppm today now i run a 4" air disc in res along with recirculating pump so my dry nutes keep flowing not falling to bottom anyways its still at 1136 after adding 220ppm tap water at 25 gal.. they are some thirsty girls my pepper plant in there just sprung up taller than the super stretch cannibas in the rear lol

The reason you want to.swap your res is because while the ppm is the same on your meter, the ratio of the nutes in the water will not be due to the fact that the plants only eat what they need.

So if your npk ratio is 3 2 4 when you start and your plants only need nitrogen they could eat the ratio down to 1 2 4 and would be drinking water so the ppm would read the same but the plants may be deprived of a nutrient they need if you don't swap the res.

Adding is bad for the same reason. If you add 3 2 4 to 1 2 4 you end up with a crazy nute ratio that probably isn't good for the plants which is why you can have plants showing deficiencies and nute burn at the same time.

Thank you so much for that easy easy direction to follow or should I say easier. Guess Monday we will change it all out at least my water stays at 60°

Once every two weeks to a month is fine I top my res off with nuted water once before I swap out in my dwc setup.
