Potentiometer question

So i ordered a b series driver by mistake so i need to get a potentiometer for it but ive read some are crap and some are good. Apparently bourns are good so i was going to just order this

PDA241-SRT02-104B0-ND at digikey, id put the link here but it wont let me post links cause im a n00b here.

Its for build of the light strips, 8 of them at 24v with one of the 120 meanwell drivers.

Considering it costs more to ship the pot then the actual cost of it i just want to make sure im buying a decent one that will work for my light.

Also how important is it to have a resistor in it too as i think i read that as a suggestion to have a 10k resistor as well, i wont bother unless its vital.

Im sure someone will point out how dumb i am about this.

That one will work fine. +-15% so a 20k ohm resistor would insure hitting 100%. A 10k ohm would likely do it too but it's nice to be sure.

Rahz, Bourns seems to usually be the top of the line or at least the standard for quality potentiometers, but to me 15% seems like a pretty big deviation. Is this a common occurrence among potentiometer? I've only used A type Meanwell drivers so I know very little about the potentiometer game. Thanks killer.

Yea it's common. The majority of pots will have a 10-20% deviation. You can find them under 5% but there's a cost associated with it. It's not going to break the bank but even with a 2-3% deviation you might be shorting the potential and since Meanwell drivers often run a tad over current you'd be missing out on that extra bit. Better to add a resistor and save a few bucks.
