Pot Sizes..

I know this is a basic question but I'm just wondering what size pots I will need in the different stages from veg to flowering?

i start out in plastic party cups (16 oz. i think) then move to an 8 in. pot then again to a 2-3 gallon pot about a week before i flower. it really all depends on how large you want to grow them... i just saw you're in the UK, so sorry for using the english standard...

Its more of a personal preference than anything. I move my clones from 8 ounce cups directly to 3 gallon planters. As a general rule you use a gallon per foot of growth for planter sizes.

It's always best to repot as less as possible, so I just use a small pot at the beginning and then switch to my 20 gallon pot.

Choosing a pot depends on what type of strain you're growing. Sativas like to sink their roots deep into the soil and stretch less horizontally, while indicas do the exact opposite, preferring to stretch sideways rather than vertically. If you wanna grow both types or hybrids, get a pot with a width as long as it's height. That's what I use and my plants seem to like it alot.

And again, when coosing pots, the bigger the pot, the more room for roots, the bigger the buds. But don't overdo it... I'd say a 20 gallon container is enough even for 8 feet tall plants.

You should start in tiny contaners so you can keep plants crammed together under the light. Depends on your light and the number of plants.

Finish pot size for a 5' plant is a good 5 gallons if not more, but you wouldn't want to start in that size. It's your grow, you can do the math to convert it don't be so lazy. :)

i would grow them in 8oz cups untill 3 inches high or something trnsplant into 1 gallon pots, then clone and fine the sex, if female move to final 3 gal pot and continue to take clones, create a system and put new rooted clones into a fat grow box n harvest every month

lol.. imo

Get one small pot, maybe 1/2 l or 0.15 gallon (or smthin like that) for sprouting and then repot after 2 weeks or if your plant already has 4 internodes to a 40-80l or 10-20 gallon (aprox) pot.

Merry X-mas.

Truth is...plant small...let it get slightly root bound...plant slightly bigger.

Before you hit the 3 to 5 gal mark, you should've transplanted 2 or 3 times for maximum growth.

Don't listen to the kids around here....look it up for yourself.

Isn't repoting stressful for plants? I've always felt that my plants get a bit droopy after every transplant. That's the only reason I say to reduce the number of transplants.

I'm not sayin Im right, Im just sayin this works best for me.

transplanting is kinda stressful for me so I try to only do it once but I got for a smaller closet grow. Im sure its only because I havent had as much practice at it but it does seem like a lot of stress for me and the plant lol

To be honest since this will be my first grow transplanting seems like a hard thing to do, especially getting it right for about 15 plants. The space I'm growing in is a loft and I will have to carry up water etc. which already seems like a drag but transplanting up there might be a mission for James Bond.

Sorry guys I haven't done enough research on re-potting so don't answer me if you don't want to.. it would just be a lot easier though because I didn't find anything in the search.

Can somebody explain to me how transplanting relates to changing the soil?.. Are you supposed to keep the same soil and pot new soil around it? Any helpful links? Its something I really should know :-?

Thanks so far everyone.

You need to read the grow faq at the top of the page. I'm not trying to be rude but if you want to be successful you need to do your homework.

If you don't like reading, there's video's. If you don't want to buy video's, there's youtube, if you don't like youtube or want more there's the pirate bay. Search for seemorebuds

If you have the money, pay that man now at seemorebuds.com or whatever it is, if you're broke pay him when you aren't. Nobody pays he can't do more.

Just get the basics then ask what you don't understand after the video's or growfaq rather than you asking every question that's already answered a million times.

(sorry if it seems like I have a lot of attitude, hohoho, merry x-mas)

I go from seedlings in a plastic party cup (I like the red ones they are sooo festive) right to my 3gal grow bags. I am always concerned about transplanting so I do it once only.

I am using rapid rooters this time around so They can easily just be dropped into my grow bags when its time to be transplanted from my festive red cups.

I normally try to start in the pot that I am finishing in. I never really understood the logic, if any, for potting in solo cups then transplanting once or twice before all is said and done. I use the rapid rooters in a tray and once I see rootness, they go into the 3 gal bags.

all depends on size of the plant your pot should always be big enough for roots to have plenty of space the grow and find nutrients. the more nutrients the better so the more space the better.
