pot size for plant

on average how big should the pots for the plants be?

currently my plants are healthy and (i guess) large, but they are in 1 gallon pots. someone told me i should transplant them, but i think it would do more harm than good

Most people go try to have 1ft of height per gallon of pot size. Many go with smaller pots and do just fine though. If you use smaller pots you will likely have to feed and water more often.
